COURSE DESCRIPTION:
THIS COURSE WILL GIVE STUDENTS A STRONG MATHEMATICAL FOUNDATION. SOME OF THE TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE LINEAR EQUATIONS, FACTORING, LITERAL EQUATIONS, SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS, QUADRATIC EQUATIONS, RATIONAL NUMBERS, IRRATIONAL NUMBERS, IMAGINARY AND COMPLEX NUMBERS, DIRECT AND INVERSE VARIATION. A SCIENTIFIC AND GRAPHING CALCULATOR WILL BE USED THROUGHOUT THE COURSE. STUDENTS WHO ARE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS COURSE ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO TAKE ALGEBRA II IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR. HOMEWORK: TO BE COMPLETED AS ASSIGNED.
ASSESSMENTS:
TESTS, QUIZZES, HOMEWORK, AND CLASS PARTICIPATION WILL BE USED TO ASSESS STUDENT PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THERE WILL BE A DEPARTMENTAL FINAL EXAM AT THE CONCLUSION OF THIS COURSE.
